Ecstar Suzuki’s Maverick Vinales debuted some larger wings on the front of his GSX-RR during MotoGP free practice at the Red Bull Ring and he has already seen a difference in acceleration and top speed.
The Spaniard, who moves to Movistar Yamaha next year, was third quickest on the combined timesheets and only three miles per hour down on the rocketship works Ducatis, which broke the speed trap beam at 194.8mph today.
“Today we bring new winglets that allow us to add more power to the bike. On top speed we were only four or five kph down so we are going to try and keep this level for the rest of the weekend,” said Vinales, speaking at the track.
“We don’t have so much wheelie and we are finding now how much power we can put. It helps a lot in the first and second sector. We are trying to make a better acceleration as it is important to fight for the race because if you cannot pass from the brakes will be very difficult.”
