MotoGP Austria: Points for Dixon after 'struggling' with new-tyre pace

Britain's Jake Dixon took more Moto2 points at the Red Bull Ring yesterday but says he has to work on his feeling with a new tyre at the beginning of a race.

Dixon moved from 15th to 14th in yesterday's 13-lap re-start but only developed his pace as the rear Dunlop began to wear, setting his fastest lap of 1'29.982 on the penultimate circulation.

"It’s a bit frustrating. We seem to have an issue with the new tyre at the start of the races. I struggled a lot at this point. But then at mid-distance to the end of the race I’m as fast as everyone else again," said Dixon.

"Once we find that little bit at the beginning I think we can have a good result. 14th isn’t bad, it’s within our target, but of course we always want to be better than that. We’ve got another weekend here and I feel like we know what we need to do to improve for then.

"Just want to thank the team for all their hard work and support; hopefully we’ll have a better result next weekend."

Team boss Johan Stigefelt believes that with data from this weekend, Dixon can make some forward progress at the same venue.

"With Jake we have been making steps forward all week. We weren’t super satisfied with qualifying, but we knew more or less this would be his position.

"He was fighting in the race and scored two points, which maybe isn’t as good as what he wanted but we have another week here. We will now check all of our data and settings to see if we can improve something for next weekend, which I’m sure we can.

"Very happy with this Moto2 result though and I’m really looking forward to next week."
