MotoGP Brno: Crutchlow breaks record to take pole

Monster Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow has broken Jorge Lorenzo's record to take MotoGP pole position at Brno this afternoon, deposing Alvaro Bautista for top spot with his final lap of the 15 minute session.

Bautista had been at the top of the tree before the whole field went in for their tyre change after getting a tow from Marc Marquez to set a 1'55.744 compared to the Spaniard's 1'55.863.

But the second set of flying laps were all about the British rider to put in a 1'55.527 to go a little less than three tenths faster than the time set by his Yamaha stable-mate in qualifying last year.

Lorenzo himself couldn't manage to emulate his time from last year and was sitting at the top of row two until title rival Dani Pedrosa pushed him down one place with his lap circuit of 1'55.868 compared to the Mallorcan's 1'55.949.

Bradley Smith contined his good run of form at Brno, a place where he has taken pole in the support classes, running in sixth and only 0.0065 slower than the factory Yamaha man and one place in front of Valentino Rossi.

The Doctor has been right on the pace all weekend but once again in qualifying, he couldn't pull one lap out of the bag and starts at the top of row three with his 1'56.186. He has Stefan Bradl and Andrea Dovizioso for company while Nicky Hayden, Andrea Iannone and Colin Edwards round out the top 12.
