An early lap from Luca Marini earned the Italian his first ever Moto2 pole position in Brno.
With exceedingly high track temperatures the younger half brother of Valentino Rossi got his lap in early as track temperatures continued to rise and got his fastest time of the session, a 2:02.244. With track temperatures not cooling, nobody bettered the 20-year-old’s time giving him his first pole of his career.
Alex Marquez will start from the middle of the front row on his Marc VDS Kalex, with Mattia Pasini rounding out the front row.
Miguel Oliveira will head the second row and come as a huge boost to the Portuguese rider. The KTM has been struggling with qualifying speed all season, how Oliveira’s early lap was enough to secure a fourth place start. Marcel Schrotter and World Championship leader Pecco Bagnaia will join Oliveria on the second row, starting from fifth and sixth respectively.
Brad Binder will be one row behind his Ajo Red Bull KTM teammate in seventh position with Xavi Vierge, Domi Aegerter and Lorenzo Baldassarri rounding out the top ten. Jorge Navarro will start from eleventh in the middle of the fourth row with Joan Mir in twelfth.
It was a session to forget for the two Brits with Sam Lowes and Danny Kent both finding themselves down on the eighth row in 22nd and 24th respectively.
