Bancaja Aprilia's Bradley Smith will start tomorrow's Brno MotoGP 125cc race from the second row of the grid after qualifying in fifth place at the Czech Republic track this afternoon.
In good conditions, Smith never troubled the top three runners but was bumped off the front row by Sandro Cortese with only a handful of minutes left in the 40-minute session as the German went third quickest.
Andrea Iannone set the pole lap of 2'08.171 with Nicolas Terol in second, three-tenths slower and Smith's team-mate Julian Simon, who is the runaway series leader, occupying the final front-row slot.
De Graaf Aprilia's Danny Webb put in a late charge to secure 15th place, nearly two seconds off the pace while Scott Redding, on the Blusens Aprilia, is in 22nd and clearly struggling after a crash yesterday.
