MotoGP Buriram: Rear grip still an issue for Dovizioso

Andrea Dovizioso said that he is still struggling with rear from the rear grip of his factory Ducati despite topping the timing sheets on the opening day of MotoGP free practice in Buriram.

The Italian was third fastest in the morning session, just over four tenths behind Maverick Vinales’, but the factory Ducati man turned the tables in the afternoon and topped the opening day, 0.038 seconds ahead of Vinales.

Despite ending the day fastest, Dovizioso said that a lack of rear grip is preventing him from going much faster.

“It’s exactly the same as the test, the only difference is that we have a different tyre and the grip is less,” said the Italian who was second last time out in Aragon.

“This is normal, because the tyre we used in the test, we wouldn’t have in the race. They changed the tyre and the lap time is lower at he moment.

“I expected to be a bit more competitive this morning and we were struggling. In the afternoon we took a step and I’m happy about that. But I’m fighting on track, I’m not smooth. The grip is very low for everybody.”
