Britain’s Danny Kent bagged a last-ditch front-row spot for tomorrow’s Catalunya Moto3 race with his last lap of the session, jumping from the middle of the top ten to second to end a tenth behind Enea Bastianini after a tow from John McPhee over the line.
Bastianini had opened a three-quarters of a second gap with his best of 1’50.137 to set the fastest-ever Moto3 lap of the Barcelona circuit with Jorge Navarro in second place on a 1’50.840.
Kent came out with only a couple of minutes left and went around in 1’50.281 to end 0.144s behind the leader and 0.544s in front of Navarro who completes the front row. Nico Antonelli was fourth with Mugello winner Miguel Oliveira in fifth place. Kent’s Leopard Honda team-mate rounds out the second row.
Scotland’s McPhee turned around a troubled final free practice session to qualify in 11th place while Maria Herrera ended in 14th place, just behind Romano Fenati.
