MotoGP Catalunya: Pecco Bagnaia leads the way in Moto2 free practice

World Championship leader Pecco Bagnaia ended the first day of Moto2 free practice fastest overall at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.

Bagnaia’s fastest time of the day came during this morning’s FP1 session when he posted a 1.44.225 which was just over a tenth faster than the best timr of the afternoon set by Alex Marquez on his Marc VDS Estrella Galicia 0,0 Kalex.

German Marcel Schrotter was second fastest in the morning and second fastest in the afternoon on his Dynavolt Kalex. Schrotter, much like Bagnaia and a whole host of other riders failed to improve on his time in the afternoon, but his time from FP1 matched Alex Marquez’s with both riders posting a 1.44.340. 1.44.340 proved to be a popular time as MotoGP bound Joan Mir also produced that lap time in FP1 and after failing to improve his lap time from the afternoon he was fourth fastest.

Augusto Fernandez, who recently came in to depart Hector Barbera in the HP Pons 40 team impressed on his first showing as he was fifth fastest overall, once again his fastest lap time of the day was produced during the morning FP1 session.

Fabio Quatararo was one man who did improve in the afternoon and he was sixth fastest overall and the top non-Kalex on his Speed Up machine. Tetsuta Nagashima was seventh fastest, whilst Brad Binder, Xavi Vierge and Miguel Oliveira rounded out the top ten. The Portguese KTM rider suffered a fast crash in the closing stages of the session but appeared to walk away unharmed from the crash.

Sam Lowes was eleventh fastest, whilst Andrea Locatelli, Lorenzo Baldassarri, Romano Fenati and Simone Corsi completed the top fifteen.
