Blusens Aprilia rider Scott Redding took a well-deserved third place in a two-part race which was stopped and then re-started as a five-lap dash. Redding added this podium to the race win he took last year.
Bancaja Aprilia's Bradley Smith crashed out of the lead of the second part. Smith got away from the line well and rode round two bikes to take the lead into the Craner Curves. But as Smith tipped into a still-wet Coppice Corner, he lost the front and clattered into the gravel.
Team-mate and world championship leader Julian Simon took the victory, which was the Aspar team's 100th. Simone Corsi took the second step on the podium.
