Britain's Danny Kent was beaten to his debut Moto3 pole position by Red Bull Ajo team-mate Sandro Cortese in the last minute of qualifying in atrocious conditions at the Sachsenring this lunchtime.
The Tetbury teenager had been enjoying a narrow lead of 0.015s over Spaniard Adrian Martin with Jake Miller in third with no-one able to match his speed through the tricky and drenched final sector but Cortese got his head down with his final lap and pulled a time from nowhere to take top spot by 1.5s on a 1'42.989.
Danny Webb, who was far faster than his bike has any right to be in the dry yesterday, couldn't make any headway in the soaking conditions and finished 22nd.
