Britain’s Danny Kent smashed the Sachsenring Moto3 outright lap record in the third and final free practice session this morning in Germany to maintain his 0.6s gap over the field ahead of qualifying.
Kent and Marc VDS rider Fabio Quartararo, who is a rookie at this circuit, exchanged times through the session until Kent came out for his final run with five minutes left and stunned the pack with a 1’26.174, 0.614s faster than the Frenchman.
The Leopard Honda man was well underneath Jack Miller’s previous circuit best of 1’26.767 and he towed team-mate Efren Vasquez through to second with Alexis Masbou and Scotland’s John McPhee also benefitting.
Quartararo managed to oust Vasquez with his last flyer but is still a relative country mile behind. McPhee remained in fifth place and is 0.942 slower than Kent but only three tenths behind Quartararo.
