MotoGP Germany: Lorenzo’s pace ominous on new tyres

Movistar Yamaha Jorge Lorenzo could well do another disappearing act in the opening laps of tomorrow’s Sachsenring MotoGP as he says he feels able to string together some low 1’21s laps on a new tyre.

And the former champion, who is only ten points behind leader Valentino Rossi in the title stakes, believes he can be faster if he sorts out some turning problems in slow corners during morning warm-up.

“When I exit with old tire I’m struggling here in this track to be in 1’21s in a constant way. But with new tyre to be honest I feel great. I could make three or four laps in the low 21s. Tomorrow we are going to try another setting to see if we improve, especially in the turning in the fast corners,” said Lorenzo, speaking at the track.

“It is a little bit our weak point now. In the slow corners we are good but in the fast ones we stay too much time on the angle. Let’s see tomorrow if we can get it. I think with new tyres I can be able to be faster than before.

“Marc here seems to have a better pace than everyone. I think the pace of Dani, myself and Valentino is quite similar. But I’m confident to try something tomorrow in the warmup that can give us a small improvement and be able to be in 1’21 during all the race.

“I feel proud of my lap time because here is difficult for us. For my riding is probably not the best and also for the Yamaha compared to the Honda here, we struggle so much. I’m happy with the qualifying. Not the first try, not the first tyre because I could not make a perfect lap but in the second one in the first lap I was close to the perfection I can do this time.”
