MotoGP Germany: Marquez focused on improvements

Reigning MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez may have won only his second race of 2015 today at the Sachsenring but he is fully focused on improving the RC213V and his thoughts are now on a test at Misano.

Marquez was unstoppable all weekend as the combination of the Honda’s characteristics and the general lack of traction at the Sachsenring negated Yamaha’s mechanical grip advantage, so Marquez was able to maraud again.

I’m very happy for this victory because I work really hard in Assen and here for come back in the top. In Assen I was close. Here in the end we get it. I’m happy for the result but also I’m happier because I start to enjoy it on the bike again. During this weekend I was so concentrate, we did a great job but we must enjoy the moment and next week we have a test in Misano so there I think will be important for the second part of the season. We want to work hard to improve these problems that still we have. But even like that happy to feel again the victory,” said Marquez, speaking at the track.

“It is really important for Honda. I’m very happy for the team because Honda work very hard. They are working a lot in Japan to give to us the best. We know more or less that step by step we will come back, but okay. Definitely looks like we arrive but still I think we need to do another step for arrive completely. But I’m happy to be again enjoying on the bike. That is the most important.”

Both Marquez and team-mate Dani Pedrosa elected to change from the medium to hardest available compound front on the grid while Rossi and Lorenzo stuck to the aysmmetric but the gamble paid off for both.

“It was incredible on the start. I start well and then I try to go in because I know that the first corner always is tricky. But I saw Lorenzo go outside. He did impressive corner. But Dani and me, we were with the hardest tire on the front. Both of us, we were scary on the first corner because it’s downhill and if you lose the front there it’s dangerous. After that when I passed Lorenzo then I did the same rhythm like in the practice and when I saw that the gap was already three or four seconds then I start to manage that distance,” continued Marquez.

Marquez will go to Rossi’s hometown to test at Misano next week as he knows there is still a lot of work to do with the RC213V as some of the upcoming tracks, including the Circuit Marco Simoncelli, are where Rossi is at his strongest.

“We go to Misano to test. Will be an important test for us, for me, for Dani and for Honda and the future. We will work hard there and then of course we will take a minimum five to seven days off for try to enjoy also the summer time.

“Also we must be honest and in this track for my riding style for Honda is working good and the corners where we have problems here are not many but still this character was there. So we must work there and try to find the correct solution if it’s possible for the second part of the season. If we get the solution of this we can be much stronger.”
