With the news that Toni Elias will almost certainly be at Gresini Honda in MotoGP next season, the Aspar Kawasaki project is once again looking around for a Spanish rider.
So, who better than Ten Kate Honda's Carlos Checa who looks like he is scouting around for something to do next year.
Ten Kate have all but confirmed they will run Jonathan Rea and Ryuichi Kiyonari in World Superbikes in 2009, with Kenan Sofuoglu moving back to Supersport to join Andrew Pitt, who is keen to stay on the 600 in readiness for MotoGP GP2 in 2010.
That leaves Checa with some options in World Supers, but Jorge Martinez wants a Spanish rider on the bike in order to attract Spanish sponsors, and that might start a scrap over Telefonica money with Gibernau's satellite Ducati team.
