MotoGP Indy: Redding extends Moto2 points lead

Britain's Scott Redding did exactly what he needed to in today's Moto2 clash at the Indianapolis MotoGP round and that was finish in front of title challenger Pol Espargaro and increase his championship lead to 26 points.

The MarcVDS man was challenging for the podium all race and eventually crossed the line in third after passing the Pons of Espargaro with three laps remaining and pulling enough of a gap to take 16 points.

Redding had played second fiddle to Takaaki Nakagami for most of the race as Esteve Rabat playing a waiting game behind team-mate Espargaro. He sliced his way through and then bridged a 1.7s gap to the Japanese rider in less than two laps to win by 1.2s.

Redding had been passed by Espargaro on lap 11 but the Gloucestershire man didn't let him go. After a tough move with three to go, he regained third place while Dominic Aegerter started to hassle the Spaniard for fourth but just didn't have enough, finishing in fifth.

"We had trouble with the tyres like we had in the Sachsenring and it's affecting my championship. I was just thinking I had to beat Pol but with three laps to go it was finished and had a big hole in it," said Redding.
