MOTOGP INDY: WEST OBLITERATES FIELD IN SECOND PRACTICE

Aussie rainmaster Anthony West has blitzed the MotoGP field at Indianapolis this afternoon, putting his Kawasaki at the top of the timesheets in monsoon conditions.

West, who won't be with Team Green next season, was three-quarters of a second faster than countryman Chris Vermeulen on the Rizla Suzuki with Gresini Honda's Alex De Angelis in third.

No-one could touch West in appalling conditions, which saw Nicky Hayden almost aquaplane off his bike going into turn one and Toni Elias nearly crash in pitlane.

Fiat Yamaha's Valentino Rossi was a second slower than West in fourth place with Ben Spies fifth and Andrea Dovizioso sixth. Casey Stoner could only manage an eighth, one place behind Jorge Lorenzo.

Britain's James Toseland struggled all session and ended second-last with a 1'59.478, some five seconds off the pace.
