Bancaja Aprilai's Bradley Smith will start from second on the grid for tomorrow's Jerez MotoGP 125cc race after finishing just two-tenths of a second behind team-mate Julian Simon in this afternoon's qualifying session.
And it's more good news for the Brits as both Scott Redding and Danny Webb also got inside the top ten, with the Redding finishing seventh just over a second off the pace and Webb a fraction slower in eighth.
Oxfordshire's Smith hit the top of the timesheets on the half-hour with a 1'49.945 but was deposed moments later by Andrea Iannone, who managed to go off-track twice in the session.
Redding was as high as fourth halfway through while Webb struggled down in 15th place for most of qualifying before putting in a blistering time with six minutes to go, posting a 1'49.343.
Redding, meanwhile, got into his stride towards the end of the session and put in a 1'49.310 with a few minutes remaining and may well have gone faster had he not encountered a gaggle of slower riders on his last flying lap.
Matt Hoyle failed to qualify but may be allowed to compete under the discretion of race director Paul Butler.
