MotoGP Le Mans: Antonelli bags Moto3 pole from Binder

Ongetta-Rivacold’s Niccolo Antonelli will start from pole position for the Moto3 race at Le Mans tomorrow, after he made his last lap count with a 1’42.756 rotation. But it did look like P1 would go to the Red Bull KTM bike of Brad Binder, but he was pipped to the post by the Italian, just as the chequered flag appeared.

It is a debut front row start for Estrella Galicia’s Aron Canet who’s 1’42.825, was good enough to go third on the grid, and went quicker than his team-mate Jorge Navarro, who had to settle for fourth.

There was only one second separating the top 23 riders this afternoon, with only 0.06s between Antonelli and Binder too. Scottish rider, John McPhee will start from 25th on the grid after the youngster posted a 1’43.767.

There were a few fallers out on track, and Nicolo Bulega experienced a massive highside at Dunlop whist in fourth. He walked away holding his wrist and fell back to sixth at the flag, while recovering in his garage.

Jakub Kornfeil high-sided in the final sector, fifteen minutes towards the end of the qualifying session and he managed to hobble away. Norrodin, Spiranelli both crashed at turn 7, early on in the outing and both walked away too. Guevara, Guartarano, Pawi and Di Gannantonio completed the top ten.
