MotoGP Le Mans: Disappointed Dixon in need of more track time

Jake Dixon concluded a difficult weekend at Le Mans with a 19th place finish in the FrenchGP after experiencing technical issues on his Petronas Moto2 machine.

Having struggled throughout the weekend, Dixon started the 25-lap race from 25th on the grid. Gaining three places in the opening corner, the Brit continued to make his way through the field, circulating in 20th by the eighth lap before gaining a further place on lap 14.

Unfortunately chatter prevented him from being able to close down the riders ahead of him and he was forced to cross the line without a points finish.

“It’s not an ideal situation but it is what it is. We’re not sure what was wrong so we’ll take some time now, analyse everything during this week off and hopefully come back stronger at Mugello.

“I feel like we could do with some more track time, because I don’t have the feeling with the bike that I want. We just need to get our heads down now and see what we can do going forward. I tried my best today, but of course I’m not happy with the result.”

Petronas team director, Johan Stigefelt remained supportive as he explained the difficulties his rider faced.

“It was a difficult weekend for Jake” Stigefelt said. "Qualifying wasn’t great and starting from the back isn’t easy. Today he had some issues with his bike, with a lot of chatter, so we need to analyse this to figure out what needs to be done. Unfortunately it just wasn’t a good weekend for him. Mugello is a nice track for the Moto2 bikes though, so hopefully we can be better there.”
