MotoGP Mandalika: Ogden collects debut Moto3 points

VisionTrack Honda celebrated its first points haul in the World Championship on Sunday as Scott Ogden concluded the Moto3 IndonesianGP in 13th.

A strong performance across the inaugural weekend at the Mandalika International Street Circuit saw the young Brit straight through to Saturday’s pole shootout having finished 14th in the final free practice session. Friday’s bright start placing Ogden inside the top ten, in ninth.

Despite failing to set a lap during the qualifying session, Ogden lined up for Sunday’s 23-lap race from 18th on the grid. Maintaining the position for the majority of the contest, he circulated just three-tenths adrift of CIP Green Power’s Kaito Toba before crossing the line 13th and 17 seconds off Leopard’s eventual winner Dennis Foggia. Teammate Josh Whatley completed his second race of the season in 20th.

“The bike worked well,” Ogden told bikesportnews.com from the Lombok paddock. “It was difficult to do the lap time at the start and I got overtaken by a few people but towards the end of the race, probably around 12 laps in, I got in a nice rhythm.

“I could see the second group and we weren’t losing too much. We started to catch a little bit and then on the last couple of laps we lost a little bit. I think if I can get a better start and just keep learning, I can be in that second or front group, because Foggia broke away.”
