MotoGP Misano #2: Vinales takes pole as Bagnaia's best gets cancelled

Monster Yamaha’s Maverick Vinales once again showed amazing one-lap, soft-tyre pace to take pole position in this afternoon’s Misano MotoGP qualifying session and set another outright lap record.

But it was only after the first ever sub-1’31s lap from Pecco Bagnaia was deleted by the stewards after the Pramac Ducati man ran on to a green painted area at the last corner.

Jack Miller not only came through qualifying one alongside Andrea Dovizioso but was plum last before he started his last lap on the Pramac Ducati.

The Australian pulled a 1’31.153 out of nowhere to grab second place and only 0.076s slower than Vinales.

Fabio Quartararo completed the front row with a 1’31.222 while Pol Espargaro also pulled a lap out of his hat for fourth place on the Red Bull KTM.

Bagnaia had to settle for his 1’31.313 after a 1’30.973 got canned but he will sit in the middle of the front row with Brad Binder to his right.

Valentino Rossi was pushed off row two by Espargaro’s final effort and he has Franco Morbidelli next to him. The Yamaha men are split by a just over a tenth with Danio Petrucci in ninth place, half a second off the pace.

Dovizioso finished in tenth place, four-tenths slower than Miller in second, while Joan Mir will be disappointed to finish down in 11th as he was a podium finisher here last weekend.

Taka Nakagami crashed again at turn 15 on an out lap with his RC213V going end over end into the fence at turn 15. He starts from 12th.
