MotoGP Misano: August test massively helps Vinales

Maverick Vinales said that the August test in Misano helped him greatly during todays qualifying session that saw him secure a front row start.

The Spaniard has had an awful 2018 to date, but after a hugely important test just over two weeks ago and a test in Aragon last week, Vinales said that he is feeling much better with the bike which helped him land his third place start.

“After the Misano test I felt much better with the bike,” said the Movistar Yamaha rider.

“We seem to improve a little bit the electronics and that gives me extra confidence on the bike with the front try. We are improving day by day and lap-by-lap I am feeling better with the bike.

“I know in this qualifying I could maybe give a little more but I am really happy to be on the front row, today was important. We can be strong and we can battle at the front.”

Vinales said that there are corners and areas in which they can improve ahead of tomorrows race.

“For sure there is time to improve,” he said. “There are some corners I have to improve the line and add some tenths. Let’s see. Honestly I am curious to see how the bike works in the race, because in Silverstone I felt great and here also.”

In the dry conditions at Silverstone Vinales topped more than one session. His improved form has continued in Misano and Vinales said that nothing has changed with him.

“This Mav is the same one, I didn’t change nothing,” said Vinales. “I do exactly the same. I’m just trying to get better on the feeling on the bike so I can push myself more so I can go on the limit.

“Honestly the Yamaha improved but we still need to improve more. The other manufactures are on a really good level and as I said, I can’t wait to improve and help Yamaha develop a really good bike, especially for next year. This year we have to deal with the same engine so we have to try to build a good chassis and improve the electronics.

“It will be really important to be really consentient towards the end of the season. I’m happy with how the bike is working, I am curious to see the race, so let’s see tomorrow but I feel quite strong here.”
