Pecco Bagnaia is still on cloud nine after his debut MotoGP win and with the paddock arriving at Misano, could there be another at home for the Ducati Lenovo star?
“I’m happy first of all,” Bagnaia said on Thursday. “Last week was incredible. From the start I feel great with the bike and then everything was clear from the start. My first victory was something, I was not expecting a first win like this, because I never fight a lot like this in MotoGP. To win my first race was very nice, so I enjoyed a lot over the weekend but more, the race because it was nice to have this type of battle.
“For this weekend I’m really happy, in front of our fans in the crowd so it will be very, very nice to race like this. Is a track where I was strong last year. I did a mistake in the second one, but the first one I did my first podium. This is a track that I like a lot and where I often train with my Panigale V4 S.
“I’m just very happy and motivated to race here after the win of last week. The victory on Sunday at Aragón was incredible and gave me the right energy to face our second home race at Misano. I know that it will not be easy, because this year the level is very, very high. Again last year, I was feeling great, but it’s very difficult to predict what you will do within the weekend, but I’m sure that we can fight.
“I just tried to do everything well, during the race,” he continued, reflecting back on last weekend’s impressive victory over Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez. “When you work a lot on your pace during the weekend, during the sessions, you arrive more prepared at the race. But you can’t predict what your rival will do during the race so when Marc started to overtake, I just tried to don’t let him do any corners in front, and this was the key, maybe, because I win.
“We are working very well, our bike this year is incredible and the hard work we are doing in the box, also with Jack [Miller], is incredible. So every time we are more close to be always on top and I would also like to see a red bike on top.”
