MotoGP Misano: Front tyre choice a big question mark for Rossi

Valentino Rossi says he is happy with his ‘very important’ front row grid position for tomorrow’s MotoGP race at Misano – and will make his final tyre choice in the morning.

The Doctor finished qualifying practice in second position, just behind his Movistar Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo, and said he is expecting a tough race if temperatures remain high.

“I am very happy with second position and the front row, it is always very important in MotoGP particularly at Misano where it is a tight track and difficult to overtake. During the weekend we have a bit of up and down because we fight a bit with the tyres. Sometimes we find something that was not perfect.”

“Misano is very demanding for the tyres and also for the riders because is a very stop-and-go track so you have to brake very wide, very deep and after we start from zero so also the acceleration is quite hard.

“It will be difficult to give the maximum for the 28 laps. You have to stay concentrated from the beginning to the end because for sure tomorrow the pace will be fast. We hope that really tomorrow will be four or five degrees less than today.”

The home town hero has yet to make any decision on which tyres he’ll use, and plans to wait until after warm-up tomorrow, after rumours the weather was set to become cloudier than today.

“Front and rear both I’m not sure, the front is a big question mark and the rear I was quite sure about the soft before I tried the harder, and when I tried the harder at the end of free practice I felt very, very comfortable so we’ll see, we’ll see.
