MotoGP Misano: Masterful Martin claims seventh Moto3 pole of 2018

Jorge Martin did what he does best and claimed his seventh Moto3 pole of 2018 as his late lap piped Gabi Rodrigo to the line in Misano.

The Spaniard has seemed in a class of his own through qualifying this year and this weekend was no exception. Lingering down in seventh as the final flying laps started, Martin navigated his way though the traffic on his lap to take the top spot from Rodrigo. Despite Rodrgio’s best efforts, his final lap wasn’t enough to beat Martin’s, although the Spaniard did improve his fastest time on his final lap to end with a 1:41.823, which was 0.311 seconds ahead of Rodrigo.

Aron Canet will join Martin and Rodrigo on the front row of the grid for tomorrows race with a 1:42.270, which was just 0.001 seconds ahead of Fabio Di Giannantonio with the Italian starting his home race from the head of the second row.

‘DiGi’ heads an all-Italian second row with Enea Bastianini in fifth and World Championship leader Marco Bezzecchi in sixth position.

Nico Bulega will start from seventh, as he looks rejuvenated on his Sky Racing VR46 KTM whilst Lorenzo Dalla Porta makes it five Italians in the top eight. Jakub Kornfiel rounded out the third row whilst Ayumu Sasaki will round out the top ten.

John McPhee had a tough session and will start tomorrows race from 26th position after his CIP KTM broke down in the opening stages of the session.
