Bancaja Aprilia's Bradley Smith was gifted a third place in the Misano MotoGP race this morning when Pol Espargaro was wiped out by Andrea Iannone on the final lap, removing them both from the scrap for the lead and giving the win to Julian Simon.
Smith, who was riding on the harder-compound Dunlop tyres, was sitting in fifth place after being down as low as ninth from his pole position spot when the crash happened, enabling him to cement his third place in the championship table. The Oxfordshire teenager was worried about his braking setup after qualifying yesterday, and he didn't look comfortable on the Aprilia RSA125 as he waited for his tyres to come to him.
Following the crash, Iannone and Espargaro had a quiet word with each other in the gravel trap, which ended with Iannone, who lost the front in the first place, aiming a headbutt at Espargaro before the marshals pulled them apart.
De Graaf Aprilia's Danny Webb finished in tenth place while Blusens Aprilia man Scott Redding retired with an engine failure.
