Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso hasn’t ruled out the possibility of a podium in tomorrow’s Motegi MotoGP round after blitzing to pole position but says it might be difficult given the pace of the riders around him.
It is Dovizioso and Ducati’s first pole position since 2010 and the Italian put the softest-available tyre to good use, edging out compatriot Valentino Rossi. Dovi says his team are getting incrementally closer to the top four and today’s effort was special.”
“The last four races we were quite competitive, closer and closer, but here even more so. The feeling is good on the bike, I was able to make the laptime whenever I wanted, which is not easy at this track. After the first run, I felt I could be aggressive in the second run and arrive a really good and fast laptime,” said Dovizioso, speaking at Motegi.
“We know the level of the competition and it will be difficult to fight for the podium but not impossible. We are closer than other weekends, we start in pole and we want to try. This pole is something special, we start last year quite far, struggling all year but this year we made and step and we arrive now very close to the fastest riders. It is a nice feeling but we know it is not enough.”
