MotoGP Mugello: Dixon confident he’ll bounce back after finding improvements

Jake Dixon’s difficult run continued this afternoon as he returned to Mugello for only the second time in his Moto2 career, ending FP2 in 24th.

His limited experience around the Tuscan track saw him use FP1 to re-familiarise himself with the 15 flowing corners and 5.2km layout before improving his pace by 1.2 seconds in the afternoon. Initially placing him 14th on the timing screens, the Brit’s 1’53.003 lap placed him 23rd in the session and 24th in Friday’s combined standings.

“I haven’t ridden that much around this track,” Dixon explained. “I last rode here in 2019 and that was my first time! I was on a different bike to this one and it was a difficult weekend.

“For me, FP1 was about re-learning the track, finding my way and trying to get into a bit of a rhythm. Again, it hasn't been the best of days for me and I’m trying to find what the right direction is for us to take here.

“I think we are getting there because we made a step in the first run in FP2, but then we changed something and ended up slower. We need to focus on making some more improvements tomorrow, I know that once we’ve made them I’ll be able to do what I need to and bounce back again.”
