MotoGP Mugello: Rossi accepts blame for poor qualifying

Nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi has put his hands up and accepted that is was his fault he will again start from the third row of the grid in tomorrow’s Mugello MotoGP.

The Movistar Yamaha man admitted qualifying has never been a strong point and the new system where there is a gap between FP4 and qualifying two is not helping - but he says he has good race pace and expects to be at the sharp end.

“In all my career it is not my strong point, the qualifying. Now is also more difficult because we have to stop, wait half an hour, usually I am better if you have the last ten minutes after a long practice,” said Rossi, speaking at the track.

“I am working on it, I take three-tenths from Jorge. Is also a question of feeling and concentration, and for sure considering my pace in the race and my potential, I must make better.

“Is my fault, I don’t try at the maximum. I had a good pace and I can do better. It looks like the extra soft tyre work very well at Mugello, there are three Ducatis in front and the Suzuki but apart from the third row, I am happy as we can be competitive tomorrow.”
