Bancaja Aprilia's Bradley Smith led a British one-two in 125GP qualifying this afternoon, taking pole position ahead of countryman Scott Redding who grabbed second on his very last lap.
Smith spent most of the session challenging for top spot, going fastest halfway through the session with a 1'58.707s lap while Redding yo-yo'd from third to eighth and all points in between.
Smith's team-mate Julian Simon knocked him off the top spot with 18 minutes to go, but the Oxfordshire teenager went quickest again with 12 minutes left, setting a 1'58.514.
With just five minutes left, Smith went out after making a small alteration to his shock and stuck in a 1'58.134 lap which Simon could not answer. Redding, meanwhile, was on his last lap and got a tow from Marc Marquez down the start/finish straight to put in a 1'58.431 which took him second.
Simon and Sergio Gadea round out the front row with Britain's Danny Webb finishing in tenth, 1.344s off Smith's pole time.
