MotoGP Mugello: 'Stupid crash' blessing in disguise for Crutchlow

Monster Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow may have got a blessing in disguise during today's MotoGP qualifying session at Mugello this afternoon after a crash at the start of the session forced him on to his second bike.

Crutchlow has been suffering with hayfever all weekend and crashed at turn three after water in his eyes meant he was insighted. He had to go out on his spare bike and immediately went quicker on an old front tyre.

"It was a stupid crash. I've been suffering with hayfever all weekend and at the end of the main straight my eyes are full of water. Normally, I can blink it away but I actually touched a kerb at turn three because I was unsighted. That made me twist the gas and I ended up falling off the side of the bike," said Crutchlow, speaking at Mugello.

"Before I went out my eyes were dripping and I never sit in the garage with sunglasses on but even with just the air going on them they were running. We have to be so cautious with what we take. One thing makes us drowsy, if you take something else it's illegal.

"If I want to take a positive from it, I jumped on the other bike and it was better. I had no front feeling with the bike I crashed and wasn't going so fast and when I set my time at the end of qualifying, I went in and they told me the front tyre was 22 laps old. If I've got that sort of feeling after 22 laps tomorrow I will be happy."
