Britain’s Cal Crutchlow has been taken to hospital with a broken ankle following a big crash at Doohan corner in the second MotoGP free practice session at Phillip Island.
The LCR Honda man went down at the 140mph turn - just as the wind began to get up - with 14 minutes of the session remaining and immediately grabbed his leg.
Crutchlow was stretchered away from the gravel trap and taken to the circuit medical centre by ambulance before being transferred to Melbourne by air ambulance.
The medical update reads: Crutchlow has been declared unfit after suffering bimalleolar and anterior tibia part right ankle fracture.
Crutchlow will require surgery on the ankle, according to doctors.
