MotoGP Portimao II: ‘Everything looking positive’ for Oliveira after checks

Miguel Oliveira’s home GP came to an abrupt and disappointing end with a red flag crash two laps from the end.

Tangling with Tech3 KTM’s Iker Lecuona at turn 13, the Portuguese rider was initially thought to be in difficulty with the red flags deployed immediately and the 25-lap race declared after 23.

Oliveira was sent from the Algarve International Circuit's medical centre to a nearby hospital for checks with the local rider released shortly after with no further concerns.

Speaking on Monday morning, Oliveira explained: “After Sunday's race, I went through a medical diagnosis, nothing was detected on any of the exams, so this is good.

“We have to control any symptoms that might come up during the next few days, but everything is looking on the positive way.

“It was a shame for yesterday,” he continued. "The race was going much better than all the other sessions during the weekend. I was looking to finish on the top 10 after a really good start, so a bit disappointed for the crash but we move on. Hopefully we can have a good final race in Valencia.”
