Monster Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow topped the final MotoGP free practice timesheets at Losail this evening, setting the fastest lap of the weekend so far on a 1'55.655 to beat Marc Marquez by more than three tenths of a second.
The British rider has set himself up well for the qualifying session later on and is only a second off the fastest lap set by Jorge Lorenzo in the final timed session last year. The Spaniard himself was third quickest but a further tenth slower than Marquez.
Valentino Rossi took fourth spot on a 1'56.141, just ahead of Stefan Bradl while Andrea Dovizioso pipped Dani Pedrosa, who is still having turn-in dramas, for sixth place. Nicky Hayden bagged eighth place just ahead of countryman Ben Spies who had a nasty crash and landed on his already-damaged shoulder.
Alvaro Bautista rounded out the top ten with Bradley Smith just behind Andrea Iannone in 12th. Aleix Espargaro was top CRT man in 13th with team-mate Randy De Puniet in 14th and Karel Abraham 15th.
Forward NGM's Colin Edwards placed 18th with Britain's Michael Laverty in 24th but he has reduced the gap to 4.2s.
