MotoGP Qatar: Fenati grabs second-ever Moto3 pole

Italian Romana Fenati has grabbed only his second-ever Moto3 pole position during qualifying today, snatching top spot from Belgian Livio Loi with his last lap of the session on a 2’06.131 compared to Loi’s 2’06.178 as both men managed their times without the benefit of a tow on the start-finish straight.

Strong headwinds at the Losail circuit are cutting down laptimes but up to six tenths of a second but the two front runners hit the front without the benefit of a slipstream from a rider in front. Third-placed man Brad Binder was working in tandem with his Red Bull team-mate Bo Bensynder to set his 2’06.245 but will drop to sixth after a rule infringement yesterday.

That promotes Fabio Quartaro, who crashed early in the session, to the front row and he is followed by Jorge Navarro, who also went down. Aron Canet was sixth on the timesheet but he will start from the top of row two and has Nico Antontelli, another early crasher, and last year’s title contender Enea Bastianini next to him as Bensynder drops a row. Philipp Oettl completes the top ten.
