Aspar Aprilia's Bradley Smith scored a fifth place in the opening 125GP race at Qatar this evening but only had to complete a handful of laps after a downpour meant the race was cancelled.
The Oxfordshire teenager fluffed his start from the front row and found himself shuffled back to tenth in the first few corners before mounting a charge and hauling his way up to fifth before the havens opened.
De Graaf Aprilia's Danny Webb got off to a flying start, finding himself in eighth before he was passed by Smith. After four laps he was classified in ninth. Blusens Aprilia's Scott Redding also finished in the points, claiming 13th.
Andrea Iannone won the race from Julian Simon and Sandro Cortese. Because the race did not reach two-thirds distance, half points were awarded.
