Britain’s Sam Lowes has again topped the Moto2 timesheets in Qatar but was made to work for it by Johann Zarco as the pair swapped sub 2’00 laps at the end of the session.
Lowes fastest time from yesterday looked under threat as Zarco got into his stride and eventually the youngster pulled out a 1’59.745 to shadow Lowes’ circuit best of 1’59.717 but the Derby-based youngster was having none of it.
The Speed Up man confirmed to bikesportnews.com after the sessin he ran the hard-compound Dunlop for the entire session and wasn’t expecting a fast time but cut his best to a 1’59.541 so Lowes is going to take some stopping on either compound.
Reigning champion Tito Rabat ended in third but is nearly half a second off the pace while Sandro Cortese ended in fourth but is a whopping three-quarters of a second off the pace. Axel Pons ended in fifth and then returned to form and crashed.
