In these days of credit crunch, economic downturn and being told what do to by a one-eyed, Scottish idiot, it's amazing that MotoGP's bosses decided to spend an extra half a million quid postponing the Qatar MotoGP by 24 hours because of rain and the problems it causes with the floodlights.
All the teams had to cancel and re-book hotel rooms, flights, hire cars and babysitters which cost a fortune. What was wrong with running it later in the year to replace the cancelled Hungarian round, as all the teams will have got that in their budgets already?
And why didn't they run the postponed race during the day, because at least if it rained again, you can just bung some wets on...
Because an awful lot of sand is mixed up with the rain in a desert deluge, Valentino Rossi said they should have had a hire car race in the morning to sweep the track clean. He was only half joking.
Alex De Angelis was hauled in the front of the beak following his collision with Dani Pedrosa but said that because no-one made an official complaint it "was no big deal". Pedrosa, on the other hand, said: "De Angelis gave me a big hit mid-race. The collision was avoidable I think because he could have passed me cleanly."
Toni Elias reckoned he would have preferred it if the race was cancelled but added that if someone had offered him ninth place, and the points that go with it, on Friday, he would have been more than happy.
Loris Capirossi, Andrea Dovizioso and Randy De Puniet all suffered a mystery mid-race grip disappearance which none of them encountered during practice or qualifying, and Capirossi's Suzuki was chattering his head off. Capirossi lobbed it, De Puniet reckoned it was dangerous while Dovi just steered from the rear.
Nicky Hayden had to have stitches in his chest following the massive, 130mph highside. He said that things didn't go very smoothly at the weekend. And the award for understatement goes to...
Pramac Ducati's Nico Canepa said he learned many things while following James Toseland, and then entirely failed to expand on what they might have been.
