MotoGP Qatar: 'Work to do' for Moto2 veteran Luthi

Swiss Moto2 veteran Tom Luthi was king of the hill at the Jerez pre-season test but struggled lat weekend in Qatar, finishing seven-tenths off the pace.

The Liqui-Moly Intact rider ended 13th on the timesheet and, crucially, three-tenths behind team-mate Marcel Schrotter but he says plenty of analysis has been carried out which will help at the season opener.

“The tests in Jerez were really very good. Here in Qatar we noticed that there is still a bit of work to do,” said Luthi.

“It was all very positive and I’m now happy that the season is starting. We have prepared well, but we still need the weekend to continue working. It’s actually perfect. We trained for three days and then had a little break, which gave us time to analyse. So we could make a plan for the weekend.

“I think we are ready for the start of the season. Because of the time difference of the sessions we have to have a look back to the morning tests. That’s the closest to the temperatures in the evening hours. But you can’t predict that exactly.

“The track and the layout are the same as at the test. I was actually looking forward to the MotoGP rubber on the track, but that’s not going to happen now, so the conditions will be similar to the test. We’ll get into the best possible set-up for the new conditions.”
