Movistar Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi is undecided on which front tyre to use in tomorrow’s Sepang MotoGP clash as the hard compound is causing chatter while the medium is forcing a change in riding style.
The Doctor went out on the hard front in free practice four but suffered a crash at the end of the session. He switched to the medium in qualifying and bagged a second-row start but says he has to ride more smoothly and closer to the limit to make it work.
“We have to try the hard front, which is not so bad, but unfortunately I have chatter and I crash so we have to decide for tomorrow because for sure with the medium front you are more at the limit, you have to ride a bit more smooth but for the qualifying for sure it was good,” said Rossi, speaking at Sepang.
“Starting in the second row is not so bad, considering yesterday we struggle with the setting and the bike. We improve today but we have to do another step for tomorrow morning and afternoon because the two Hondas are very strong and also Jorge is a bit faster than me, so if I want to stay with them, I have to improve my setting and my pace.”
It may, of course, all be for nought as unpredictable weather in Malaysia could see an afternoon downpour tomorrow as was experienced yesterday.
“Here the weather is impossible to understand but is not like Phillip Island that the temperature do gown. Is four O’clock and we are 38°C but depends for the rain also.”
