MotoGP Sepang test: Dovizioso happy with race pace

Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso admitted he made a mess of his last time-attack lap on the final day of Sepang MotoGP testing but believes the work carried forward from Sepang that will go into the new Desmosedici GP15 is far more important than a one-lap thrash.

The factory Ducati rider ended his test a second off the pace and four places behind team-mate Andrea Iannone but was pleased with the race run he did on Thursday as it gave him more to tell the engineers.

“The time attack did not go so well. I think we have to be really happy about these three days apart from that lap because I didn’t make a really good lap, I have just one tyre. I am not happy about that but it not so important. Everyone wants to do, but I couldn’t,” said Dovizioso, speaking at Sepang.

“I didn’t make a perfect lap, I push but I didn’t make good braking, speed off the corner, didn’t use the potential of the bike. It can happen when you have just one chance and it’s not always easy.

“These three days have been good with extra feedback. We improve the setup a little bit in both chassis and electronics. Just small things but they make a small difference. Yesterday, I make 15 laps and I am happy with my pace.

“We know what we can do with this bike. At the end of last year we become closer and closer, and now we need something different. I am looking forward to the new bike. I can’t know about it but I am asking questions.”
