MotoGP Sepang test: Electrical issue halts Rossi

Factory Yamaha's Valentino Rossi was forced back on to the 2012 YZR-M1 after an electrical problem rendered this year's bike unavilable on day one of MotoGP testing at Sepang.

The Doctor had been set to do race simulations on the still-green track but resorted to using one tyre to gauge performance and ended up fifth on the timesheet, half a second off the pace of quickest man Dani Pedrosa whlle his crew narrowed the fault down to a connector. By the time he was ready again, the rain had started to fall.

“The first day is not so bad, but we were unlucky because we had a small problem with the bike which had the new chassis so we had to stop and use the old bike. We made some tests with that using just one tyre and my pace and my lap times were not so bad," said Rossi.

"After we waited for the afternoon for the real work but the rain came so we decided to stop and continue tomorrow. If it rains again tomorrow we will do some laps in the wet conditions.”
