MotoGP Silverstone: Harder rear tyre benefits Marquez

Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez was unstoppable during the MotoGP qualifying session at Silverstone and put down a stunning 2’00.234, smashing his previous lap record by four tenths, and he found the harder option rear tyre more beneficial than the softer compound this afternoon.

In the end the double-champ favoured the medium front and harder rear. His choice certainly paid off, and he was surprised with just how well he did perform this afternoon, especially in FP4, but depending on the weather he may run the medium rear tyre choice.

Even with a superb qualifying time, Marquez is adamant that he still did not do a ‘perfect’ lap, and made small mistakes, but with the weather looking unpredictable tomorrow the young Spaniard is not sure what to expect.

“Since FP3 the pace was good with the softer rear tyre and medium front. In FP4 we tried the harder rear and seen that the potential was good and it was a great surprise for us. But the temperature on the ground was higher than yesterday but will probably be higher than tomorrow, so we must pay attention to that.” said Marquez at the track.

“I enjoy Silverstone a lot but the most tricky point is the weather, so tomorrow will be the biggest question mark on the race. With qualifying we did not do a perfect lap but we were fast so we can be happy about that, we must really concentrate on tomorrow and we must fight for the victory. Jorge is going to be strong and we know that Valentino is a Sunday man, if it is dry and the pace is good then we can fight for the victory.”
