MotoGP Silverstone: ‘I can be at the front of this class’ - Dixon

MCE British Superbike regular Jake Dixon may have done enough to secure a future in the Moto2 class at this weekend’s Silverstone MotoGP round and says he believes with enough bike time, he can run at the front of the championship.

Dixon was expected by many in the paddock to finish dead last in today’s race as he had zero experience of the Dynavolt intact bike or Dunlop tyres before Friday, but he confounded those critics to fight his way to 25th place and passed fellow Brit Tarran Mackenzie who switched from British Supersport to Moto2 for the Le Mans round.

Obviously you always want more as a racer. In the early laps I lost a couple of seconds to the group in front. But then I caught them back and I started to make inroads in the group from 20th to where I was. I was able to make good process but it came to a point where I hit a limit and I couldn’t go quicker,” said Dixon.

“It was a good experience. It was hard to jump back from the Superbike to the 600. But with given more time I think I can be at the front of this class. At the minute I wasn’t able to get the best out of the bike. But like I said with time and getting used to the tyres, the chassis, everything, I think we would definitely be a lot better.

The team was fantastic and Jürgen (Lingg - Team Manager) has been absolutely amazing with me. Also a thank you to Patrick (Mellauner - Crew Chief), Tomy (Wegscheider - Mechanic) and Felix (Kertzscher - Mechanic). It was an incredible weekend and hopefully we can one day come back together and have some good success.”

Dixon was standing in for Marcel Schrotter this weekend but can’t race at Misano as he has BSB commitments with his RAF Reserves Kawasaki team should the German still not be fit to resume…
