MotoGP Silverstone: Passing Hondas 'impossible' says Lorenzo

Reigning MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo has echoed Cal Crutchlow's observations that Honda have a massive advantage over Yamaha in this year's championship and said it is impossible to pass them.

The factory Yamaha rider has adopted a strategy of trying to get away at the front and make a break because getting past the two Repsol RCVs is impossible as they are stronger in every area except corner speed.

He intimated that unless Yamaha come up with a solution soon, his championship hopes are completely sunk and next year's story will be exactly the same - with or without the seamless shift gearbox.

"We have to improve the bike and then we will have again Yamaha tracks, now we don't have any. Maybe following could work but it is difficult when you only gain on corner speed and you are losing on the straight and in the braking," said Lorenzo, speaking at Silverstone.

"If you cannot recover with corner speed, then it is difficult to stay with them. It is almost impossible to overtake them under braking because they brake so late. Maybe in terms of saving physical energy it can be good to follow, but if I have a good start and first lap I am better to try.

"If we are competitve here and more or less on the same level as them, then we can think about changing strategy. With this bike, I think the best strategy is to go away as it is impossible to overtake them on the straight, it is impossible to pass them on the braking."
