MotoGP Silverstone: Rabat hospitalised with severe leg injuries after crash

Tito Rabat has been hospitalised with a broken right leg after being caught by Franco Morbidelli’s Honda after a chaotic MotoGP FP4 session at Silverstone.

With FP4 coming to a close, rain started falling heavily at the far end of the track, with rain coming down hard at Stowe, water started to sit on the circuit With the amount of water sat at Stowe, riders including Jorge Lorenzo, Alex Rins and Aleix Espargaro all ran on or off at the corner. Rabat then fell on his own at Stowe and was then hit hard by the sliding bike of Morbidelli.

After being hit by the bike Rabat was down and the session was red flagged. Rabat then received extensive treatment in the gravel trap with talk of a broken tibia, fibula and femur being banded about.

Rabat was then air lifted to Coventry hospital after being sedated. Whilst his injuries weren’t deemed life threatening, Doctor Angel Charte told Spanish TV that Rabat’s pain was ‘unbearable’.

The Spaniard’s Avintia team this evening confirmed that Rabat will undergo emergency surgery with unconfirmed reports that he severed an artery in the crash.
