Petronas Sprinta’s Jake Dixon put on a stellar comeback performance at Spielberg this morning, finishing the StyrianGP 10 places higher than he qualified, in 11th.
A strong start from 21st on the grid saw Dixon claim nine places in the opening two laps, moving into 12th, before starting a nine-lap battle with his team-mate for the top-10.
The Brit eventually conceded the position after struggling with tyre-life in the closing stages, crossing the line 11th, in what his team boss, Johan Stigefelt, described as a confidence building ride.
“Considering where we started the race, going from 21st on the grid to 11th, that was a good result,” Dixon exclaimed.
“We got through to 10th but then stagnated a little bit, so that wasn’t ideal. In the end I was on the limit with the front tyre in the second half of the race, but I managed to do what I could with it.
“Hopefully we can improve next weekend, as we made a step forward in the race, and continue heading in the right direction.”
