Valentino Rossi will hang up his leathers at the end of the 2021 MotoGP season and switch to cars but said that ending his career on two wheels was a decision based on results.
The Italian has not won a race since Assen in 2017 and switched from the works Yamaha team to the satellite Petronas outfit in 2021 but lost most of his loyal crew, which made life even harder.
Rossi had the opportunity to race with his half-brother Luca Marini in the VR46 team next year but has opted not to carry on.
"I had a very longer career and fortunately I won a lot of races and so is difficult but you know, you need to understand that the results make the difference. And so at the end I think is that this is the right way," said The Doctor, speaking at the Red Bull Ring.
"I have the chance to work for my team, together with my brother but anyway, is okay I can't complain about my career."
