Aprilia’s Lorenzo Savadori endured a spectacular crash at the Red Bull Ring three laps into Sunday’s Styrian GP resulting in the Italian breaking his ankle.
Red Bull KTM’s wildcard, Dani Pedrosa had crashed at the notorious turn three moments before the Noale rookie came through, the RC-16 sitting in the middle of the track and leaving nowhere for Savadori to go. The impact resulted in a dramatic fire with Race Direction issuing the red-flags.
Pedrosa experienced no injuries from the incident as was able to join the grid for the second start, Savadori, however, suffered a fractured right malleolus and is scheduled for surgery tomorrow. The 28-year-old aiming for a return to racing action in time for the British GP at Silverstone, in three weeks time.
