MotoGP Valencia #2: Lecuona ruled out after positive Covid19 test

Red Bull KTM Tech3’s Iker Lecuona has been ruled out of this weekend’s second Valencia MotoGP round after failing a Covid19 test.

Following a ten days quarantine in his Andorran home, after he had been in close contact to his brother and assistant, who has been tested positive for the virus last week, Lecuona was travelling to Valencia this early morning in order to compete in FP3 and the rest of the Gran Premio de la Comunitat Valenciana.

On arrival, the rider had to undergo another swab PCR test, producing a positive result. He will undergo further tests, hoping that he will be able to take part in the final round of the 2020 season next week. Luckily, the Spaniard doesn’t show any symptoms.

“Although Iker has been tested negative three times, the last test he took this morning at the entrance of the circuit showed positive,” said team boss Herve Poncharal.

“Therefore, he won’t be able to enter the circuit and participate at the Gran Premio de la Comunitat Valenciana. He will be tested furthermore in order to understand if ever he can fly to Portugal to participate at the last Grand Prix of the season in Portimao.”
